Make It Happen For Women: The Diary of a Job Searching Woman: From the Job Search Expert
Dear JobSearchingWoman,
You haven’t heard about the interview. When should you call? What should you say?
Job Search Expert: A lot will obviously depend on exactly how the interview. was arranged and by whom but in general, you should call the person who was your main point of contact. That will sometimes be the Human Resources point person but it might also be one of the interviewers themselves, too. It might also be appropriate to call the senior interviewer directly if that door was left open during the interview.
A good script – so to speak – to follow would go something like:
“Hi, Amanda – this is Samantha Ziglar calling. I just wanted to check on the decision process for the Sales Manager position. I’m wondering if you might have an idea about when the decision would be made and how I’m doing in the race?”
Simple, direct, friendly, and unassuming – that’s the right tone and content.
